Welcome to the land of the midnight sun!
What is the weather like in June in Alaska?
Despite how we look in the photo (this was taken in Denali National Park in March), the weather in south central Anchorage is generally mild. Average temperatures range from 50-68 F. The days are long, but not hot, and sometimes rainy. But we are crossing our fingers for sunny skies on the longest (and happiest) day of the year.
How should we dress for Alaska?
If you are not planning any outdoor excursions, we recommend a light rain jacket, warm hat for cool evenings, and good walking shoes. Typical attire in Alaska is casual to outdoors chic (think REI catalogue). The wedding will be formal attire. If you are planning an outdoor excursion or activity, please contact us directly, as we can recommend specific attire and gear to best complement your adventure.
Your wedding is cool and all, but what else is there to do?
SO MUCH! Alaska is a playground in the summer. Please visit the 'Thing to Do' section of the website.
So, tell us more about the wedding?
The wedding will held at the Anchorage Museum. Cocktails, nibbles, and chit chat will occur at 6:00pm in the atrium (on the first floor near the south entrance). The ceremony will begin at 6:30pm in the Gallery of the North on the second floor. Following the ceremony, please descend back to the first floor atrium for dinner and further celebrations until 10:00pm
How do we get there and is there parking?
The museum is located at 625 C Street. All ride share apps function in Anchorage. There is also a local cab company at 907-222-2222 (Alaska Yellow Cab). If you are driving, there is complimentary parking at the museum parking garage on the south side. Cars may be left in the garage until 10:00am the following morning. Please enjoy yourselves and don't drink and drive!
When do we arrive at the museum?
If you arrive after 6:00pm, please enter the museum through the south entrance and say you are with the wedding. If you would like to come earlier to enjoy the museum, you may enter at the main entrance. Visitation to the museum is on us! Please let them know you are will the wedding. You will be given a badge to wear. Keep this on to avoid getting kicked out at closing.
Is there anything else we need to know?
Yes! As the ceremony takes place in an art gallery, there are some rules.
- Please be respectful and do not touch any of the art pieces (there will be several amongst the seating)
- Please do not bring any food or drink into the gallery for the ceremony. Food and drink are acceptable in the atrium.
- No glitter, sequence (that is a gallery rule, but also a Travis rule).
- No helium balloons (apparently they set off the fire sprinklers, who knew?)
- Due to capacity limitations in the art gallery (as well as for the protection of the art), we are asking that small children (older than lap infants and younger than teenagers) remain outside the gallery during the ceremony. We will have many child friendly activities and a responsible sitter in the atrium to keep kids entertained for the short ceremony.
But I want to rage all night! What happens after 10:00pm?
After 10:00pm, depending on the weather, we will take the party to the town. There are many fun events happening downtown, so bring some walking shoes and toast the midnight sun with us.
